Projects Grandparents Ball - created in 2005, the Grandparents Ball is a recognition program for grandparents. Our goal is to recognize grandparents who are making contributions to their family, church and/or community. This annual event is held in June in a community centers, Salvation Army facility or church. Grandparents who are nominated by family (or “like family”) members, community groups are adopted into the organization and receive recognition and/or achievement awards from Grandparents Around the World Productions Inc. and local legislators at a grand ball. To date, 47 grandparents from as far as Peru, Jamaica and Canada have been recognized and adopted.

Entertainment, Vendors, and Community Resources Grandparents Walk-A-Thon: this event which encompasses both a walk-a-thon and health fair, encourages the entire to family to participate in activities that promote wellness. It also brings large and diverse communities of seniors together, face-to-face in support of each other. It is simply a walk at your leisure and abilities event, and does not include walk sponsors. Health information and testing are provided by New York City approved and licensed health suppliers and vendors. Additional activities include games for the children/youth and storytelling enriched by tradition and legacies to enhance relations between the generations. It is traditionally held in September in a public park in New York City. This year we have been granted permits for Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, NY. Dinner at Grandma’s, A Play With Music: held annually during Mother’s Day weekend, the play exemplifies intergenerational family life during the 60’s and 70’s in Cross, South Carolina. It demonstrates cause and effect that challenge and strengthen the entire community. Seniors and children from the community participate and attend the play. The play is an on-going theatrical production that has been presented throughout New York City since 2004. Grandparents Coloring Book Project: our work in progress (not yet implemented) envisions an artistic but educational way of passing along the stories, the history and folklore held in the memories of the elders. These coloring books could be translated and transposed for multi-cultural, multi-lingual expression and use. We plan to select grandparents to share their stories for the first edition “A GRANDPARENTS’ JOURNEY – A COLORING BOOK”. It could be utilized in schools, churches, hospitals, etc and presented by grandparents themselves as an opening thrust in establishing a relationship with children/youth. All of our events are geared towards our goal of recognizing the contributions, efforts and accomplishments of grandparents and promoting positive interaction between the generations.
